MARSHALL, Texas — Hardin-Simmons' men's soccer team beat East Texas Baptist 5-2 in American Southwest Conference action Friday evening at Cornish Field in Marshall.
The Cowboys jumped to a quick lead when Zach Johnson found Brayden Ellington for a goal just 40 seconds into the game. HSU received an own goal and Taylor Jackson scored on a corner kick to make it 3-0 at the 35:48 mark.
ETBU received a Carey Thibodeaux goal and Matt Pitcock scored for the sixth time this season at 44:20 to make it 4-1 at halftime.
Robert Hornig scored in the 57th minute for HSU and Pete Fitzsimmons added the final goal of the game for ETBU in the 60th minute.
HSU is now 9-4-3 on the year and 9-2-1 in ASC action. The Cowboys can claim the No. 2 seed in the ASC Tournament and a first round bye with a win over LeTourneau on Saturday. ETBU is now 4-13 overall and 4-8 in ASC play.
