Cowboys Rally To Force Tie
ABILENE, Texas - After an emotional conference weekend against two of their top rivals, Hardin-Simmons' men's soccer came out flat but recovered to earn a 3-3 tie against Webster (Mo.) in non-conference action at the HSU Soccer Complex.
Coming off a scoreless tie on Saturday, it did not take long for either team to find the net on Monday. Webster scored 1:08 into the game when Kyle Lewman found the back of the net.
Cody Oswald came right back for the Cowboys to tie the game at 1-1 at the 2:50 mark and Webster's Adam Ullo scored :44 seconds later to make it 2-1.
HSU maintained control of the ball for most of the rest of the first half and outshot the Gorloks 15-5 in the first half and had eight corners to none, but could not get the equalizer.
Webster took advantage of a turnover by the Cowboys and Mike Politte hammered a goal home to make it 3-1 at the 48:01 mark.
HSU continued to force the issue and finally came up with a Zach Krawulski goal in the 75th minute. Cody McGrath then tied the game when he found the upper 90 on a free kick from just outside the box at the 77:51 mark.
The Cowboys peppered the net, but could not get a goal to earn the win. Due to weather in the area and Webster's flight status, the teams did not play the overtime periods.
HSU outshot Webster 32-9 in the game, including 18-5 on goal. HSU had 14 corner kicks to none for Webster.
HSU is now 5-3-4 on the year and Webster is 2-5-3 on the year. HSU will play at Louisiana College on Saturday.
