HSU Is In Second Place At Abilene Intercollegiate

ABILENE, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' men's golf team is in second place after the first round of the Abilene Intercollegiate which is being played at the par-71, 6,977-yard Diamondback Golf Course in Abilene.

Junior Luke Smith shot an even-par 71 and is in third place, one shot out of the lead. Freshman Nick Vella shot a 75 and is tied for eighth. Matt Jouett had a round of 76 and is tied for 13th and Aaron Errico shot a 79.

Michael Speck rounded out the lineup with an 85. Playing as individuals. Chris Rorie shot an 81 and Greg Garrison shot an 86 in his first career tournament.

Sixth-ranked Concordia leads the tournament by 15 shots after shooting a two-over par 286. Southwestern is third at 308, Texas Lutheran is fourth with a 309, Mary Hardin-Baylor (312), McMurry (316), Howard Payne (321) and LeTourneau (326) round out the field.

Will Arend and Ryan McGinley of Concordia each shot 70 and have a one-stroke lead over Luke Smith.

The tournament will conclude with 18 holes on Tuesday, beginning with a shotgun start at 9:30 a.m.
