Cowboys Lead Alamo City Classic After First Round

SAN ANTONIO, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' men's golf team has a three-stroke lead after the first round of the Alamo City Classic which is being played at the 6,999-yard par-71 Quarry Golf Club in San Antonio.

Luke Smith and Matt Jouett are tied for third place after shooting 74s on Monday. They are just one shot behind co-leaders Will Hocker of Webster and Colin Uecker of Texas Lutheran.

Aaron Errico is tied for eighth place after shooting a 76. Freshman Nick Vella fired a 77 and Chris Rorie had an 85 for the Cowboys.

HSU leads Schreiner by three strokes and Texas Lutheran by five after shooting a 301 in the opening round. Webster is six strokes back, Trinity is nine and the University of Dallas is 11 strokes behind at 312.  

The Cowboys will be attempting to win their first team tournament title since 2003 at the District 6 Invitational at Painted Dunes in El Paso. The tournament will conclude with 18 holes on Tuesday.
