Cowboys Place Fifth In Season Opening Tournament

KERVILLE, Texas — Hardin-Simmons’ men’s golf team opened its spring season with a fifth place finish at the Schreiner Spring Shootout on Tuesday afternoon at the par-72, 7,056-yard Comanche Trace Golf Course in Kerrville.

The Cowboys shot 326 in the second round, matching its first round total for a 652 team score. Texas Pan American won the event with a 605. McMurry was second at 614, Texas Lutheran was third with a 633 and Schreiner shot a 648, good for fourth place.

HSU’s five players finished in the same order as round one and all were within one stroke of the first round. Aaron Bradshaw led the way with a 78-77-155 to tie for seventh place. Kelci Gonzales shot a 79-78-157 good for a tie of ninth place. Adam Parker shot 83-84-167, Brian Laing shot 86-87-173 and Blaine King shot a pair of 88’s for a 176.

Armen Kirakossian of UTPA shot 70-72 to win the medalist race.

HSU will next be in action March 9-10 at the Texas Lutheran Invitational.
