

Cowboys Win Season Finale

SEGUIN, Texas — Hardin-Simmons’ men’s basketball
team pulled out a 82-79 win over Texas Lutheran to end its season
Saturday afternoon at Memorial Gym in Seguin.
The Cowboys trailed 12-7 early on but had a 14-0 run to take a
21-12 lead. HSU led the rest of the first half and held a 36-33
halftime lead.
HSU used a 9-0 run midway through the second half to take a 67-58
lead, but TLU responded with a 14-0 run to take a 72-67 lead.
Steven Wesley’s back-to-back buckets to give HSU a 75-73 lead
with 3:08 to play.
The teams traded baskets and it was 79-79 all. Casey Riddle gave
the Cowboys a lead with a pullup jumper in the lane to make it
81-79 and Steven Wesley split a pair of free throws with :17 to
play. TLU missed a late 3-pointer to give the Cowboys the win.
HSU shot just 28-of-80 in the game and were 9-for-50 from 3-point
range. However, they held TLU to 39 percent shooting and forced 25
turnovers.
Singer led the Cowboys with 19 points, but finished just 7-of-21
from the field. Terrence Willis had 18 points and 13 rebounds in
his final career game. Rian Stubbs had 13 rebounds in his final
game and Rob Yeatts had nine points in his final game.
Nate Walton had 20 points to pace TLU and Malcolm Dotson added
17.
HSU ended its season with a record of 9-16 overall and 8-13 in
league play. HSU finished in a fourth-place tie with Sul Ross
State, but the Lobos had the tiebreaker on the Cowboys for the
final spot in the ASC Tournament. TLU ended its season with a
record of 6-18 overall and 6-15 in league play.
