Cowboys Fall To McMurry

Boxscore

ABILENE, Texas - Hardin-Simmons' men's basketball team used a deliberate style to shorten the game, but came up short in a 68-62 loss to McMurry in American Southwest Conference action at the Mabee Complex.

The Cowboys employed a strategy of taking 25 seconds off the shot clock on each possession, but in the end the Cowboys could not overcome a strong McMurry start. McMurry jumped out to a 23-11 in the early going, behind 11 points from Dewayne Hall and back-to-back 3-pointers by Robert Moreno.

HSU chipped away at the lead and cut it to 38-33 with 2:06 to play in the half on a Casey Riddle 3-pointer. McMurry made it 42-33 at halftime.

In the second half the lead was between five and 12 points the whole half, but the Cowboys could never get the lead. There were only a combined 47 shots taken in the second half as each team worked the shot clock each possession.

Carlos Singer led the Cowboys with 17 points, Terrence Willis had 13 and Riddle 10. Hall had 17 points for McMurry and Jonathan Walker added 14.

HSU is now 6-13 on the year and 5-10 in league play. McMurry improved to 14-5 overall and 13-2 in ASC action. HSU hosts Concordia on Thursday.
