Cowboys Fall To UMHB

ABILENE, Texas — Hardin-Simmons’
men’s basketball team closes the home portion of its schedule
with an 80-65 loss to Mary Hardin-Baylor, Saturday afternoon in
American Southwest Conference action at the Mabee Complex.
The Cowboys led for most of the first half and actually led by as
many as 10 points at 26-16. UMHB chipped the Cowboy lead away and
HSU led at halftime 38-37. In the first half, HSU hit eight
3-pointers in the first half, but UMHB countered by shooting 61.5
percent.
UMHB took control of the game with a 17-4 run from the 13:16 mark
to the 7:03 and UMHB led 64-52. The Cowboys could never make
another run at the Cru.
Carlos Singer again led the Cowboys with 19 points. Rian Stubbs had
12 points and Steven Wesley and Rob Yeatts had 10 points each.
Tilmon Gaddy led five Cru players in double figures. Jason Wagner
had 13 and David Ray and Carter Tynes each had 12 points.
HSU is now 7-14 on the year and 6-11 in league play. UMHB improved
to 13-7 and 11-5 in ASC action. HSU plays at league rival Howard
Payne on Thursday.
The Cowboys honored Stubbs, Yeatts, Terrence Willis and Marcus
Smith, its three seniors, in a ceremony after the game.
