HSU Falls To McMurry

ABILENE, Texas -- Hardin-Simmons' men's basketball team fell 91-77 to McMurry in American Southwest Conference action at the Mabee Complex on Monday night.
The game was an early-season match-up of ASC West leaders and the Cowboys jumped out of the blocks with a 22-6 lead in the first 10 minutes. However, McMurry came right back and took their first lead of the game at the 4:38 mark of the first half on a 3-pointer by Scott Hurley.
McMurry pushed the lead to 39-29 on a DeWayne Hall with 2:05 to play in the first half. The bucket capped a 29-7 run for McMurry. HSU cut the deficit to 41-36 at halftime.
In the second half, the Cowboys took the lead at 57-56 with 12:16 to play on an Aaron Thornton jumper. The lead went back and forth over the next three minutes. The game saw its ninth and final tie at the 8:43 mark and McMurry went on a 19-3 run to blow the game open over the next 6:27, including nine free throws.
Junior point guard Steven Luckey led the Cowboys with 20 points and Mark Schlott added 11.
McMurry received 65 points off its bench and Richard Jones led McMurry with 28 points and 11 rebounds. Scott Hurley (19) and Ricky Burney (14) each had career-bests off the McM bench.
The Cowboys will be off until Jan. 3 when HSU hosts Ozarks at the Mabee Complex.
