ALPINE, Texas – Hardin-Simmons' baseball team dropped the first game of its American Southwest Conference series at Sul Ross State, 13-6, on Thursday night at Kokernot Field in Alpine.
The Lobos jumped to a 5-0 lead after two innings. Sanchez had a home run in the first and Ochoa had a two-run single. Bigley added a two-run double in the second.
Jamie Dominguez had a solo home run in the third inning for the Cowboys and HSU cut the deficit to 5-2 in the sixth inning on a Hunter Garrison RBI groundout. The Lobos scored five times in the sixth inning and three more in the seventh.
Tyler Bradshaw had three hits for the Cowboys and Dominguez, Tople and Cooling added two hits each.
Cody Remore earned the win for Sul Ross State as he allowed six hits and two runs in five and two-third innings to improve to 7-2. Ryan Acebedo had four of the 17 hits for the Lobos.
The Cowboys are now 8-16 overall and 6-7 in ASC play. Sul Ross State improved to 16-10 overall and 10-3 in league play. The teams will play a 1 p.m. doubleheader on Friday.
