Cowboys Pound Ozarks, 18-5

ABILENE, Texas – Hardin-Simmons’ baseball team used an eight-run seventh inning to propel it to an 18-5 win over the University of the Ozarks, Friday night at Hunter Field in Abilene in crossover American Southwest Conference action.

Ozarks scored a run in the first inning as they scored the run on the back end of a double steal. HSU answered with three runs in the bottom of the first. Regan Dixon had an RBI single, followed by a J.T. Armstrong an RBI double and Taylor Berlin followed that with an RBI single.

The Eagles scored a single run in the third on a sacrifice fly by Jeremy Hogan. HSU countered with a run in the fourth on a Brian Weeks RBI single, that followed a Jaxon Jordan triple. Ozarks scored a run on a Michael Prusator sacrifice fly.

Ozarks took the lead with a pair of runs in the sixth inning on a RBI groundout by Todd Koch and also on a wild pitch. The Eagles chased Cowboy starter Sam Walker in the inning.

The lead was short lived as the Cowboys scored eight times in the sixth inning. Weeks led off with a triple and scored on a Matt Roam ground out. After Dixon popped out, Armstrong singled and moved to second and third on a balk and Taylor Berlin drove him home with a single. James Gage was hit by a pitch and Mike Morgan walked to load the bases. Andrew Rehling (who pinch ran for Berlin) scored on a wild pitch and Jordan walked. Kevin Elllison had a bases loaded walk and then Weeks had a three-run triple and he scored on a wild pitch,

HSU scored six more runs in the eighth. Weeks had his third triple of the night and it drove in two runs. Dixon tripled in a run. Jordan had an RBI double in the inning and Armstrong had an RBI single.

Sam Walker got the start for the Cowboys and he went five and two-third innings, allowing six hits five runs (only two of which were earned) and struck out four. Eric Roten received the win for the Cowboys as he finished off the sixth and then worked scoreless innings in the seventh, eighth and ninth.

Weeks was 4-for-6 with three triples and six RBIs to pace the Cowboy offense. Armstrong also had four hits.
The games do not count in the ASC standings but HSU improves to 6-5 on the year and Ozarks falls to 3-7. The teams will play a 1 p.m. doubleheader on Saturday.
