Barton, Walker, Coaching Staff Earn Top Honors

RICHARDSON, Texas - Hardin-Simmons' baseball team had two players and its coaching staff win top honors from the American Southwest Conference's West Division head coaches voting that was announced on Wednesday.

Kyle Barton, a senior righthander from Seymour, was named the co-pitcher of the year. The senior righthander went 9-1 with a 5.00 and led the league in wins and he also had five saves. He shared the award with Michael Johnson of Concordia.

Sophomore pitcher Sam Walker won the sportsmanship athlete of the year and the HSU coaching staff of Steve Coleman, Brad Holcomb, Ben Burum, Brad Coleman and Blake Koch was named the co-coaching staff of the year along with the Texas Lutheran coaching staff.

Barton was joined on the ASC West first-team by junior designated hitter Regan Dixon and junior catcher J.T. Armstrong. Dixon hit .354 with 16 home runs and 56 RBIs. The home runs and RBIs were both new school records. Armstrong led the team by hitting .377 with 10 home runs and 44 RBIs.

Sophomore shortstop Brian Weeks and senior first baseman James Gage were named to the second team.

Junior outfielder Matt Roam, junior pitcher Tim Kriegel and Walker were named honorable mention selections.
