Cowboys To Host Texas-Dallas In ASC Championship Series
Hardin-Simmons’ baseball team will host the University of
Texas at Dallas on Friday in the first round of the American
Southwest Conference Championship Tournament.
The Cowboys (24-16) and Comets (25-15) have split two games this
season with HSU winning 4-3 in Richardson and UTD winning 11-9 in
Abilene. It is the third time in five years of the current format
the two teams have met in the best-of-three round of the
tournament.
Hardin-Simmons finished as the No. 2 seed in the ASC West and
UT-Dallas was the three seed out of the East. Other first round
series include: the University of the Ozarks at Texas Lutheran,
McMurry at Texas-Tyler and Mary Hardin-Baylor at Mississippi
College. The winner of each series will advance to a double
elimination tournament next weekend at the highest remaining East
Division seed.
The home team has won 14 of the 16 series in the four seasons of
the two-week tournament format. The Cowboys have won two series and
lost two, including defeating UTD in 2005 in a series in Abilene.
HSU lost at UTD in 2007.
The series will begin Friday night at 6 p.m. and will conclude on
Saturday with a doubleheader if necessary on Saturday beginning at
2 p.m.
